Biography

Jeetendra Eswaraka, DVM, PhD, DACLAM, is the Associate Vice President for Rutgers Animal Care program with over 18 years of experience working in the laboratory animal field in leadership positions. Prior to Rutgers, Eswaraka has been directing animal care programs for over 15 years working at both small biotech (GTx Inc.) and larger pharmaceutical companies, Pfizer and Amgen. Eswaraka is a board-certified laboratory animal veterinarian and has a PhD in Molecular Virology and pathogenesis from the University of Tennessee.

Eswaraka is very passionate and active in the field of Lab Animal Medicine.  He serves on the board for two organizations: New Jersey Association for Bio-medical Research (NJABR) and New Jersey branch of Association for Laboratory Animal Science (NJALAS) and an ad-hoc consultant for AAALACi involved with accreditation of lab animal facilities across the country. Eswaraka is very passionate about the use of the 3R’s in the laboratory animal field and has been involved in the development of alternatives such as the “Organ-On-Chip” models for replacement of some animal models. He brings his experience on organizational skills, policy initiatives, management and passion for the lab animal community to Rutgers Animal Care program.
