La femme Nikita I liked the movie. It's surprising how I like the foreign action movies better than their US versions. This one has somewhat the same storyline as The Bourne Identity. This one is an action movie, with a spirit behind it. The US version, is just ACTION. Nikita is a criminal who is given a new identity to kill for the government instead of spending the rest of her life in prison. She becomes delightful of this till she finds herself a new life outside ... |

Breaking the waves This is a very delicate love story, anti-hollywood style! It's about a couple who love each other very much but Jan, the husband, becomes paralyzed in an accident just after the wedding. His wife, feels so guilty about this and is ready to do anything Jan wishes for ... |

The sea inside [It's a very beautifully made delicate drama about a quadriplegic man who wants to end his life after 28 being paralyzed. He tries to find someone who's willing to kill him as he can't commit suicide. I highly recommend you see it if you're into mellow drama and of course foreign movies. |

Lost in Translation The story is about an American celebrity who travels to Japan for filming an advertisement. There, he meets this young woman who's there because of her husband. They have two things in common. They don't know Japanese and they don't have good private lives. So they wander around talking and getting closer to each other for a while, nothing really special. |

Ikiru When I got the movie, I was about to not see it. I mean C'mon. A Japanese 1952? irrrrrrrgh. But actually it turned out to be a good movie. I liked everything about it except for the pace of it which was a little too slow. Just to quote Raha on it "you can watch it with 1.5 speed and yet not lose any of it". The story is about a workaholic bureaucrat who finds out he's been wasting his entire life sitting on the back of his desk after he finds out that he has stomach cancer. He starts to LIVE before he DIES. |

Underground This is a beautifully made movie bye Emir Kusturica. The story starts from an underground manufacture of weapons of Belgrade, during the WWII, and evolves into fairly surreal situations... |

Assault on Precinct 13 An action movie. The classic tale of corruption in police force; this time, the special forces attack a local police station to kill a prisoner who shouldn't survive to his court. |

The big Lebowski A very cool comedy. I really like Dude's (the leading role of the movie) personality. I've seen it several times and still enjoy watching it. It's one of those movies you want to see when you're pretty fucked up and want to relax. |

Maria
Full of Grace I liked the movie. Maria is a 17 year old Columbian girl who desperately seeks some way to make some money for her family and becomes a Heroin mule to New York despite the fact that she is pregnant. Basically, it's very much like the Iranian film "Circle" (دایره) if you've seen that one but of course more elegant. |

Wedding Crashes Not the best comedy I've seen so far. I laughed a lot but that was probably because I was a little drunk. I'd heard a lot about it and it seems people are really enjoying this movie. Even the rating in IMDB was pretty high for this kind of film but I guess I'm done with Hollywood second class love stories for the moment. |

Apocalypse Now
A very long movie (3:22 h). Francis Ford Coppola's 1979 so called masterpiece which follows a Captain who has a mission to kill an insane American colonel in Vietnam. Well, it was a good movie; but definitely not a masterpiece. It has a little different perspective to V. war than "Heaven and Earth" and "Full Metal Jacket". |

Wings of desire
The worst thing about it was that it was in German so I had to read the caption. The movie is about an Angel who wanders around reading peoples' minds in their daily lives and descends down as a human after falling in love with a girl. It was a soothing and easy going drama with a very good script (mostly the thoughts of different kinds of people about life, death, ...) |

The short films of David Lynch
Didn't like them. There were 6 of them and I only watched 3 of them. the first one called "six sick men" or something like that was a total crap. "Grandma" was better but still not satisfying. I don't recommend you see them. |

Lost highway
If you're tired of working and want to spend the night watching a relaxing movie, this is NOT something you want. You should see it at least twice to understand what's going on. I'd seen it back in Iran and was still eager to see it again. Also read the reviews available on internet about it to better grab the ideas behind it. It's very similar to Mulholland's Dr. if you've seen that one. |

Les Chorus
Nice drama that follows the diaries of a teacher who is transferred to a new school and has to deal with rebellious students. I know there are lots of movies with the same storyline but this one was specially interesting to me; probably because of the way the teacher managed to enter the students hearts (he formed a chorus and made them practice everyday). I also liked the actor who performed the teacher's role. |

Midnight Express
Oh god, I waited so long to see this movie. I remember how much I tried to see it back in Iran and never found it. 1979 Alan Parker's hot movie about the story of William Hayes who gets arrested in Turkish airport because of smuggling and transferred to a prison where he gets pretty fucked for 5 years. I have to admit that it was not something I expected. Now I understand it was more of political issues that it became so popular. It probably deserves a 4 start rating but you know I degraded it cause it didn't satisfy me :) |
